The Plesner competition team is one of the largest and most experienced in Denmark.
The competition team includes the former president of the General Court of the European Union, Bo Vesterdorf, as well as a competition law economist and highly specialised partners and lawyers who all have experience with the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority, the Danish Public Prosecutor’s Department, the European Commission’s Legal Service and the Directorate General for Competition.
Several of the team members have experience of working in Brussels or London, or for multinational companies. The partners and associates all have considerable international experience and have been thoroughly trained and educated in Denmark and abroad.
Empirical expertise
Competition rules have an effect on practically all businesses. Not only because violations may have serious consequences but also because the rules often provide the basis for the choice of business strategy and cooperators. Flexibility and creativity are necessary to optimise commercial considerations within the framework available, a task which requires considerable empirical expertise.
Compliance programmes
Competition law compliance is a natural part of an up-to-date compliance programme. Through compliance programmes and training we assist in ensuring that the conduct and the agreements of the business are in compliance with Danish rules and Community law. But in particular we provide specific, constructive advice that focuses on the clients' business needs.

Assistance in competition cases
On the basis of our long, extensive and highly successful experience we are also able to provide assistance in all stages of a competition case; from the initial investigations, the administrative procedure and eventually cases involving fines or damages before the Danish courts and the European Court of Justice.
Merger Task Force
The Plesner merger task force provides advice on mergers and other transactions in the form of assistance in connection with the preparation and completion of the transaction by merger screening, due diligence, notifications of mergers and negotiations with authorities, including the Danish competition authorities and the European Commission in particular. We often coordinate very extensive multiple filings where the same transaction is to be notified and considered in many different countries.
Economic expertise
Today, economics is a fully integrated and fundamental part of competition law, and economic analyses constitute an increasing part of the daily counselling within this legal area. To comply with this trend, Plesner's competition team includes members with highly specialised expertise within the area of competition law economics. This enables the team to render optimal assistance in cases that involve complicated economic aspects, and the team's competences within this area have often played an important role in the counselling in specific cases, including for instance cases regarding complex cartels, rebates, excessive pricing, mergers and claims for damages in relation to violation of the competition rules.
State Aid and EU law
We also have extensive experience in state aid and related areas such as regulation of liberalisation and privatisation under EU law and not least EU law and procurement rules.
